These guys are absolutely HUGE. But don't let that scare you! These guys are very good natured and gentle and make great family pets! St. Bernards have a great sense of smell and are usually used as snow rescue dogs. They can also sense an incoming avalanche. They need lots of space so they probably wouldn't do so well as a city/apartment dog. You might feel that these dogs look familiar to you. That's because you've probably seen them in the movie series "Beethoven". They don't shed and need as much grooming as newfoundlands, but they may run into many health problems as they grow older. Also, the skin around their jaws droop so beware of the drooling!
Nevertheless, these lovable gentle giants make awesome pets.
